Brave

When you are a lion,

It is easy to be brave.

You are big. You are loud.

You are handsome and beloved.

And no one is trying to eat you.

I want to be brave as a platypus.

Strange. Undefinable.

Completely myself.

As brave as a penguin –

Standing against the harsh cold

And staying soft and warm.

As brave as a spider!

Weaving feats of strength and beauty

Even while the world wants to squish me.

I pray to be brave as a mouse.

Insignificant. Small.

At the bottom of the food chain.

But still here.
